Bruce Markow: Music

Let's Be Honest

(© Bruce Markow)
Written in October, 2001. If there was such a thing as "9/11, the Musical," this would be the part where I am standing on a soapbox in New York City's Union Square, saying to the assembled multitudes what essentially became the lyrics to the song.

"Let's Be Honest" appears on the CD-EP Demolicious4. You can buy it at the Bizarre Bazaar.

The view outside my window -- hijacked planes from hell
The flames the smoke people who jumped, two twin icons fell
Then the teenager in the white house pulled the trigger on a video game
The parents of a victim said, "Don't kill in our son's name!"

(Chorus 1)
Let's be honest - At least let's make a start
Let's be honest - Can we find it in our heart?
Let's be honest - It just might save your ass
Let's be honest - It's the only way to find a peace that has a chance to last

The violence of September I wouldn't wish on anyone
Now here we are tossing hot steel at Afghan mother's sons
Integrity is firm as steel, as vulnerable as flesh
How did ours go soft these years and get us in this mess?

(Chorus 2)
Let's be honest - At least let's make a start
Let's be honest - Can we find it in our heart?
Let's be honest - The arrogance must pass
Let's be honest - It's the only way to find a peace that has a chance to last

(Extended rap section...)
(Chorus, instrumental)

I'd like to see Bin Laden gone or safely behind bars
To keep him from more heinous acts against the stripes and stars
I also dream to see a day when all of us agreed
No scandals weigh on the home of the brave. We truly have been freed!

(Chorus)

It's the only way to find a peace that has a chance
It's the only way to find a peace that has a chance to last
